This may have been discussed earlier in the message board, however I have been using a combination of minoxidil 5% and Nizoral Shampoo 2%, for roughly three weeks, after reading a vast amount of literature on the subject matter, I realize that it does take time to regrow hair, but I have noticed an increase in hair loss, more than usual in the first weeks of treatment. Can only offer me any light on whether this is normal? or if I should discontinue the use of minoxidil 5%? thank you

Re: minoxidil 5% and increase in hair loss According to what I have heard, this increase is normal with the 5% Minoxidil. In order to benefit, you have to stay on it for about 4-6 months before you actually see results. The reason one might experience an increase in hairloss is because as monixidil penetrates the scalp, it causes the hair follicles to grow, shedding the fine thin hairs that were growing in what is now a thicker hair shaft. The fine hair falling out allows a thicker fuller hair to grow in.

Re: minoxidil 5% and increase in hair loss Usually for the first few weeks of treatment on High concentration minoxidil...5% 12.5% etc.... There is an Increase in hairloss...this is due to the overstimulatig of the treated hiar follicles....The hairloss will include thin hair as well as thick terminal hairs in the treated area...However...don't worry..these hairs grow back....and further hairgrowth will follow...this shedding ends after about one month of treatment..so don't be to concerned about it!

Re: minoxidil 5% and increase in hair loss Go to www.minoxidil.com. An excellent site for info about hair loss and products. They may have an explanation for the hair loss.

Re: minoxidil 5% and increase in hair loss Will it also grow in the hair in the frontal area or just the back? I have been lossing alot of hair in the front after starting treatment. I know you are not to use it for frontal hair loss but after reading all the post off this sight I decided to give it a go. Good idea or bad? Please help anyone reading this.
