I have been using Propecia for about a year with very good results (some people who see me on a daily basis noticed). Since I hadn't noticed improvement in a while, I decided to add Rogaine 5% to my treatment. That was about 3 weeks ago and for the last 4-6 days I have been shedding a lot of hair (maybe 100 ea. day). What does this mean? Is it working or causing problems (no skin irritaion or discomfort of any sort has happened)? Do I need to just stick it out?

I did have periods of shedding like everyone describes while using Propecia only, but this is more drastic than what happened to me before.

Yes stick with it. The more you shed the better. 100 hairs per day is not that much. Since I was 17 and started losing my hair I was losing like 100-200 hairs a day. This was before I started any kind of treatment. As soon as the shedding stops you will begin seeing huge improvements. The shedding could last 2 weeks to more than a month. You are only shedding the hairs you were about to lose anyway though, dont worry about it.

Hi, I have been on Xandrox for about 3 months. I can't say that I was shedding loads before I started using it (or maybe I am a bit blind). After using it for 3 months I can't see much dramatic improvement but I haven't lost more new hair. Does this mean its working / not working ... ????

Viper,

Have you been using Xandrox 2x a day and ALSO using Minox 2% or 5% a day? From what I've heard, you must be using Minox concurrently w/ Xandrox 2x a day for it to work.

Re: Rogaine 5% and Shedding

Hi, Are you sure ? I have only been using Xandrox 5% twice a day and Xandrox 12.5% only at night. I didn't realize that you had to use Minoxidil 2x a day. That actually sounds weird because Xandrox already contains minoxidil right ? Please explain.

Re: Rogaine 5% and Shedding

Hi Viper,

I only use 2% twice a day. I used Dr. Lee's 5% for almost 2 years once a day and I didn't regrow anything although I think I kept my hair with his products. What I've been hearing over and over from people who actually have had sucess w/ minoxidil have said they used it twice a day for at least 4 months and hopefully 6.

*clarification* Oh, if you're using Xandrox 12.5% Dr. Lee does have on his website (in bold) that you have to use the 5% Xandrox, not minox, "my bad"!

(from Dr. Lee's site)

Q. Where should Xandrox 12.5% be used?

A. Only on those areas of the scalp that are refractory to treatment of MPB by any other means. For most patients, this means the areas of both temples and/or the frontal hairline. But some patients will want or need to use it in the vertex and/or on the crown. It should not take the place of 5% Xandrox for general application on other parts of the scalp.

Re: Rogaine 5% and Shedding

Xandrox=5% Minoxidil and 5% Azelaic Acid. You don't need to use it with 5% Minoxidil and if you do it would have the same effect as applying your Minoxidil 4x a day.

If you overdose on minoxidil can cause some not so fun side effects like water retention and increased body hair growth.
