Anyone heard of this new bandwagon? There's tons of chatter about positive results on this women's forum http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1209 "But, I am a BIG skeptic. As fast as my hair is growing, I am not sure I would want to keep it going this fast for long long periods of time. It just seems like a going a little too much against nature. But, this growth is SO SO addictive!!!" ^^^ lolz "I will be posting my results March 25. That gives me 2 solid weeks of use. I got 1" of growth the first week I used it. I never got growth like this before, not even with MTg and Surge. My nape has benefitted the most. it has never grown out with the same rate as my sides. This stuff is the bomb." "At 3 weeks, my new growth is off the chain, I cannot comb my hair wet or dry. I have gone from hovering above bra strap (stayed this length forever) to well below bra strap, got a "cut" to get rid of split ends which put be back above bra strap around Nov/Dec 05 (see avatar pic), and now I'm back below bra strap. " "I have been using miconazole since the 12th of Dec and I have about an 1 1/2 inches of new growth, and hair around the edges were I didn't have any before. So this does work." "Yes, this is a lot of new growth and it is to the point where I don't know what to do with my hair. That picture was taken yesterday actually as I was trying to detangle and realized how much new growth was up there. I just had to run and get my camera because I was so surprised."

Man just read tha thread and it is so filled with misinformation.. the first post says finasteride has monistat in it - untrue. A couple of replies down it says minoxidil is only for men and has no effect for women - also untrue. That being said, it's just about got me convinced to try it just because I don't see any way it could hurt. I also notice the thread is from 2003 - I'm trying to read my way through it to see what the longer results were but it's 45 pages "Don't be afraid to see what you see. "

When I was doing research again on Ketoconazole, I saw some studies indicating that Miconazole (Monistat) might been of some help in treating MPB.
However, my conclusion was that Keto should be more effective, certainly more proven.

4% MN seems the best way to go along with Minox. Will need to find this, most OTC is 2%. I have a F'k-Ton of vellus hairs on my hairline I'm trying to switch over. If only.
May do a test with pics soon.

4% is found in Monistat (aka treatment for women's yeast infections). Most other otc formulas are 2%. I did a pubmed search on miconazole earlier and did not find any studies related to effects on hair. "Don't be afraid to see what you see. "

Picked up some duane reade 3 Day Vaginal Cream (hehe) 4% Miconazole Nitrate. For $14 you get a decent tube .9oz (25g) over even the more expensive $21 original Monistat. Going to test this on the hairline area of my RIGHT TEMPLES only for two weeks. Lots of vellus hairs. A few baseline pics. (these are web cam shots. will see if my cellphone cam can get better images) BTW: I sort of have these recent acne scar landmarks I thought would be perfect to help distinguish any progress. I drew lines to connect them which might be useful when superimposing future reference photos. Right Temple Baseline http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/4121/20100826152920110.jpg (Zoom 1.5X) http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/2426/20100826152902769.jpg Left Temple baseline (won't be applying MN) http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/9541/20100826154303500.jpg Currently using Minox 5% X2/day (~1 year) Will smear a thin layer of MN at night before sleep. Again, only on the hairline area of my right temple. Will use a little on the right half of my widows peak also (err .... well what's left of it. It's not much.) Will add progress pics if I see worthy changes.

Better baseline pictures. Sony Ericsson macro mode. Heh. Medication I'm using http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/2223/dsc09028a.jpg The lines in the pics are just connecting a few skin blemishes (landmarks) for reference. Yes, I will be putting MN on the actual hairline above them. Right temple (will test hairline and right side of widows peak this side only) http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/3938/dsc08999.jpg closer http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/2962/dsc08998p.jpg negative colors http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/2109/dsc08999inv.jpg Left temple (will not test with MN) http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/843/dsc09000.jpg negative colors http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/7018/dsc09000inv.jpg Front http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/1116/dsc08982f.jpg negative colors http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/8223/dsc08982inv.jpg And so it goes.

If you are only going to test it 2 weeks prepare to be disappointed. None of those posts on the other site said they got results in 2 weeks. They all said it took at least 2 to 3 weeks to see a difference, and those were for normal hairs. The problem with testing them on vellus hairs if you are definitely not going to see spectacular results. Vellus hairs are limited in how long they can get to about 1/4"-1/2" tops - before they can grow longer, they must shed and regrow thicker. They don't go from vellus to terminal in the same hair cycle. So even if it worked, the vellus hairs would grow and fall out (with a rest period in between) - your 2 week trial would not show anything. If you want to see whether anything works for balding hairs you need to give it 4-6 months at LEAST - this gives the vellus hairs time to grow, cycle out, and start new terminal hair growth. I am going to try and get some today as well not to replace ketoconazole but to use in addition to it. "Don't be afraid to see what you see. "
