I have been on Finasteride just for a short time I have not missed a dose.. I have Definitly noticed alot of shedding over the past say , 2 months .. I was just curious how long after the shedding slows down can I excpect to see hair start to atleast grow back or thicken?? I definitly had more thicker hair in the crown before it started shedding now Im just praying I see some new growth or atleast get back what I lost during the shed ... Any input on this subject or experience would be much appreciated.. I am one of the people that has had NO side effects on this medication so far but I am aware of them .. so please not looking for input about sexual sides or emotional sides .. or any of the others Ive gotton enough info about the negatives... I havnt seen any sign of any of them .. and I am trying to stay positive.. other than the shedding I forget Im even on anything at all .. Thank you for any responces about shedding and regrowth or thickening I really appreciate it!!

Whenever i have been on Proscar. I usually start shedding after 3-5wks. Hair thickening (individual hairs) after at least 2mths. Noticeable regrowth at least 6mths, with best results after at least a year of continous use.

webchecker - I was on Propecia for nine year and went through several shed after my initial start. Each shed lasted about 3-4 weeks. After each I experienced growth and thickening, until my hair was completely back to normal. The time span was about six years, so it took about that long to reach the peak of coverage, density and health. Unfortunately this did not last. At year seven my results started to decline, shed after shed, my hair became thinner and I lost density. I have stopped and started Propecia twice and have experienced sheds each time I started. I have never seen the results that I had the first 5-7 years. My follicles just don't seem to respond positively to the drug anymore. I recently (eight days ago) stopped again due to increasing negative side effects, such as libido loss, depression, muscle weakness and increased fat gain on my mid section. Yes, this could all be a coincidence; there could be other factors for the fat gain, muscle loss and depression, but not the libido problem. So, just a warning that this drug may not maintain your hair forever. If you are a good responder, you should start to see good results at month 3, or 4. You’re shedding should decrease and you should notice new healthier growth. Month 6 - 12 will produce more growth and less shedding. There was a time when I only shed ten hairs daily. My hair was very stable and strong. By year 3 you will probably have gained everything you will and you should continue to enjoy that for another few years. There are many Propecia users that have reported a loss over time. The doctors blame it on genetic progression, but I think they are full of shit, and the drug has actually lost its effectiveness. Your body may up-regulate over time to counter the drug. Try it, but don't expect miracles, and keep in mind that you may end up with sides.
Hope this helps – John

Hey John Thank you for your responce. Sorry to hear that you started having sides .. I have just begun so only time will tell if I will start to see them eventually. I didnt realize that in time that it may become uneffective do to my body building up a type of tollerance to it .. but that makes sense. well if I can get through for say 6 years from today who knows what new treatments may be available then and if none new, maybe I consider a HTP who knows??? but thanks for the responce it did help.

Webchecker! I was on Proscar for 7yrs, but during these 7yrs, i quite often had breaks in treatment of say 2-3mths, maybe 5-6times. When people talk of proscar losing its effectiveness after time, i have often wondered that by having breaks in treatment, you stop your body from counteracting against proscars effectiveness. (my thoughts only). Since those 7yrs, i had a gap in treatment of 4yrs approx and have been back on Proscar for 5mths and im getting results. If you read the thread PROSCAR VETERAN, i regularly update there. Good luck!

Quiffy - Did you go through shedding periods when you were off Proscar, did the hair grow back without the drug? Thanks. - John

John When i had breaks of 2-3mths, shedding started after about 2mths and lasted for about 2wks before the rate of loss slowed dramittically when i restarted proscar. Without Proscar i did not notice any hair grow back (referring to 2-3mth breaks). What i noticed was my hair feeling less fuller than what it was prior to a break. When i had a gap of 4yrs without Proscar.(see thread PROSCAR VETERAN) I would say i lost 75% of my gains including hair thickening within 18mths of stopping. Then it more or less stayed the same for the next 2.5years, i continued balding at a very slow rate and the hair (individual) became thinner.
