Low Sex Drive? Maybe there's an answer? (Finasteride Related) Hey guys,There's a drug that has been available for a while called dostinex which apparently increases your libido. I haven't researched it thoroughly yet but a friend just messaged me about it. Finasteride ruined my sex drive and since I came off it about 2 years ago it never really returned to how it used to be (not even close). I'm personally going to look into getting this medication even if it means having to buy it online (I would do anything to get my libido back to where it was!) I've also heard that if you are on anti-depressents it can also offset the low libido caused by them. I know this isn't a depression board but considering 1-4 people suffer from it at some point I think that should be brought to peoples attention.

Dostinex works by lowering your prolactin levels. Prolactin is the reason that you have a resting period after you orgasm, since orgasm increases your prolactin levels. So if you have high prolactin levels, this will help in the libido dept. You can also lower prolactin levels by reducing estrogen (which is another reason your libido may be suffering). It's all highly interconnected. In most of the hormone profiles of those suffering with ED I've seen, most have high estrogen levels and higher SHBG levels. High levels of SHBG = low free test levels and high estrogen levels, which = high prolactin levels. All those combine to make you have ED. If it's been 2 years and you are still haveing ED, go get a hormone profile. Have you taken other things to see if you can fix your ED? At a minimum, I'd take something like DIM for estrogen management. Can also throw in Chasteberry and/or Mucuna Pruriens for Prolactin management. Dostinex can be gotten quite cheap online though, and a little goes a long way 1mg/week max is all I'd take as higher doses have been shown to possibly cause heart valve degridation. But the people that get heart valve degridation from it are taking 2.5 - 5mg/day...And have been on it for years now.

Hey Harie, I had my hormone levels checked out. Apparently it's all normal. However I have come across others that since coming off finasteride their libido has not returned. I have tried tribulus to increase libido and it did something but not enough. I'm actually looking into ordering Dostinex online. I did some more research and yes also found some very negative side effects but like you saw that it was just in very high doses. I'm just looking for the best prices right now. And jksl I was on finasteride for about 3-4 years I think.

Best prices I've found online for Dostinex (Cabaser) were at elitenetpharmacy.com. Can also order it from alldaychemist.com for a good price also...but shipping/handling from that site sucks!

One drug to cure anothers is not the answer, no doubt that drug will have a side effect - Hair loss? I was on proscar for 4 months, amazing for my hair, then one day no erection. New girl friend and NO ERECTION!!! Could have died! My libido went 100% and I didn't even see it go! 12 months later I feel I am almost! recovered. I recommend exercise and red meat to boost testosterone levels in your blood. 1 drug to cure another cannot be the answer.....Michael Jackson anyone?

Thanks for the link Harie, that's a lot better price than what I was looking at. Yes LaserMeUp one of the temporary possible side effects is hairloss. However it does say temporary and "possible side effect" I made sure I looked into that lol. I'm not on any medication now I just want my sex drive back. 12 months to recover from the side effects of a drug is ridiculous! I was in the same boat as you, I went from being able to go all night to basically not wanting it at all and this problem has been going on for years now. I didn't have a girlfriend over a lot of that period so it didn't matter but now I wish I had never taken Finasteride. It's like there's no strong connection between my brain and sex! This is why I will take drastic measures and I know others on this forum are also in this situation and perhaps don't want to speak up. However I will keep everyone updated as this problem is having quite a negative effect on my life. That's a warning for EVERYONE!!!

dostinex works but i would not use as it has sides effects just like fin. They have found that dostinex may cause problems with the valves in your heart in the years to come,so i would stay away from this drug. look i give it a short go until i found out this info, and just would not want to risk my health just to increases your libidowhen using fin. The best thing to do is stop using fin if you have side effects that your body cant handle.

Hey Graeme, thanks for your reply to the thread. I know dostinex has side effects but I'm desperate now! I have just ordered it online and am only going to use very low doses. I have read that it can cause problems with your heart valves on higher doses. I have stopped using finasteride that's the thing! My libido never came back!!! It's like the wiring of my brain to my dick has just vanished. I'd sue their asses if I could. I only recently found out that this has been a problem for many many people! I've tried every type of herb under the sun to fix this problem and nothing did much at all. So I'm heading in this direction. For all those on Finasteride seriously consider it because it's ruined my relationships with woman and I LOVE woman!!! Ruined my last relationship also and I'm embarrissed to go into another until this problem has been resolved. By the way I'm not usually this open, probably because you guys don't know me and also because everyone here is just out to help everyone else that is why I'm asking and telling people "my story" for lack of a better word and a warning for others. None of my friends know, no family. NOBODY! This is a great place for therapy! LOL

BrendenJ, I'm sorry to hear about your lasting problems even after quitting. I'm just past the 10 month quit mark myself and I'm still having problems like you. I've been avoiding relationships for over 2 years because I haven't been "myself" down there. Once I researched it and found that it was most likely my 11 years on Finasteride that sent me down this path, I quit. But maybe too late. I hope you can find the right answer for yourself. Me, I've sworn off any Rx drug until I've tried every other reasonable herbal solution. So far I can say that L-Carnitine/alpha lipoic acid, Zinc, Sustain Alpha, Magnesium oil, Tribulus, and several other herbs/supplements alone and in combination have not helped significantly. Good luck!
