finasteride for people without mpb

Im just curious. If someone without mpb started taking propecia/proscar/finasteride for weeks or even years, what would the outcome be on there hair? Would they have better hairgrowth. Or would it work in reverse for people without mpb and cause them hairloss?

Hope someone can answer that as its vital to my experiments. Cheers

I know that it was orignally used for enlarged prostates and one of the things they noticed was increased hair growth but was that only for people with mpb?

My dad (about 65 yrs old) takes this for his prostate and got some growth on the top of his head. Scattered pieces here and there (not tons of pieces) but nonetheless, growth.

Cuebreeze, thanks for posting this. I've often wondered about this myself. Not sure we'll ever get an answer though! Would be interesting to find out....

I ask for this reason.... If i can get my scalp back to a non-mpb scalp with some new stuff im trying than finasteride would start to play against me. I wonder if increased dht is good for people without mpb. Surely there is something good in those hormones for people with mpb right?

yeah, of course, thats the whole problem with it. we need dht for growth of genitals during puberty, for growth of manly features, devlopment of muscle, we wont die without it, but we will be less of a man.

if u never had mpb then there would be no benefit of taking it, but plenty of negatives.

if u have mpb, then theres the benefit of saving some of ur hair or regrowth, to go up against the negatives.

and then people have to decide whether the pros outweigh the cons, and sensible people would say the cons outweigh the pros, but hair is pretty important to some.

i dont see how ur going to get ur scalp to a non-mpb situation though. wont those follicles always be hyper sensitive to dht. ur best bet would be to taper off it like i know ur doing, and then replace it with some natural A5 reductse inhibitors.

I guess you would always have the receptor sites that non mpb persons dont have, we have been genetically doomed with this shit But, tell us about your experiment Cue !

Well, DURING PUBERTY are the imperative words there, Anxious1. The effect of lowered levels of type 1 DHT (the type suppressed by finasteride) AFTER PUBERTY is much less apparent. AFAIK there is no evidence it would lead to less muscle mass etc. And to make the picture more complete one should add the potentially lowered risk of prostate cancers and acne when on finasteride as well.

I cant back this up with anything but i feel the strangle hold that dht has on the follicle has gone away since i started occluding. The skin around my forhead/hairline can really stretch and move now compared to before it was so tight. Since lasers and occluding my hair is growing sooo much good. I cant even begin to explain how smooth and thick it feels. Problem is i think im shedding a bit more over the last week and i feel that fin could be playing against me now. I say this because usually when i shed, its weak, thin hairs but now my hair is growing so much faster and smoother i dont see how they will get a chance to minitarize.

Do ALL mpb hairs go through minatureization before completely dieing off?

The fact that my hair is growing so damn healthy, im thinking this shed is gonna be really good.

Also i only just started by weening off fin today after 4 years on it so i know its not lack of fin causing a shed. I will be weening off fin over the next 4 months either way as ive had enough of the sides.

Anyway like i said. My hair looks/feels/is growing really well with lasers and occluding. My scalp feels very loose all the time/no inflammation etc. I feel like fin may be playing against my hair now.
