I didn't know propecia could do that!!!! Ok, so ask me yesterday what I thought of propecia and I would've only given praise about how great it is and how it's saved my hair without any of the nasty sexual side effects that everyone seems to be talking about. BUT, recently (I say recently, I probably mean the last yr, maybe longer) I've noticed that I can't seem to concentrate. Actually, it's not that I can't concentrate, it's that I can't concentrate on something for a long period. Example: a film. After about an hr I just can't seem to keep focused, I get anxious and have to get up. I've been reading on propeciahelp.com that it has something to do with the metabolism/formation of neurosteroids and GABA. Everything they say I get. It's weird. Like I'm reading my life back at me. Like I get up in the morning and have a song stuck in my mind for no reason. Also people say that alcohol helps, which is exactly how I feel, I guess due to it's depressant effects. Dizziness, decreased visual acuity. I literally cannot believe it. Everything is there.Anyway, I guess what I'm asking is if anyone else has noticed any of these central side effects that propecia seems to have? And if so, why the f@ck aren't they on the side effect list with the drug, because they seem to be quite common. I've always dismissed anyone who said the side effect profile of propecia was a lot greater then merck made us believe/published. I guess that was because I wasn't getting the classic sexual side effects. Now I know that actually the side effect profile extends far beyond that, and people should be aware of this. Sorry guys

Wow, this explains everything! Back in high school I was class president, outgoing, very people oriented. I started losing my hair in college, got on propecia and have been taking it ever since (approximately 10 years). I really never experienced sexual sides (at the very least, they were minor), but at some point after starting fin I developed an anxiety that I'd never experienced before, especially when speaking in public, like job interviews. Now, I am quite the introvert. Although I've learned to control my anxiety to some extent, it is still there. I also have suffered mental fog and substantially decreased memory, beginning about the same time. I never really connected the dots that all this stuff could be fin related, but reading the message boards, it appears that may be the case. It makes sense timing wise. The big question now is whether I should stop taking it. I do think that it has helped me keep a lot of hair. And I'd hate to quit only to find that the mental sides stick around while my hair falls out. I've been lasering for about 3 months now with a 300 diode helmet. What do you think guys, should I quit fin now or wait until I see how I respond to the LLLT?

Whoa. Yeah, i've got a lot of those traits too and i never heard that it(fin) could be a factor. I just chalked it up to hard party days. It has been 3wks since i quit the fin , hopefully once this stuff finally clears out of my system i'll get that part of my brain back. LOL BTW , a slight increase in shed but nothing to freak me out about..........yet.

guys this is called 'brain fog', and is a very common side effect, but not listed as a side effect. i dont know y. its probably something alot more people get than reported, maybe cos they just dont realise it, or link it too the propecia. if its not listed, then u dont expect it, so when it happens, its easy just to blame it on something else. think of it this way, do u agree that if ur experiencing this now, its only going to get worse? if yes the only answer is to stop taking it. maybe it will go away, maybe it wont, but if u continue to take it, its garanteed to continue. this is y im so against it. Because, yes in the short term, it will quite likely save ur hair and regrow some of it, but its just not viable long term. i honestly believe 90% of people r going to have to quit eventually, so i guess really the only benefit, is that it can postpone ur mpb to later life when ur ready to deal with it. i.e. after u met some girls and basically get ur life together. i guess if youve been already taking it for yrs, then waiting a few more months to see how u respond to lllt will be ok, but whether u respond or not, be prepared for a shed when u stop. If i worked for the fda, i would have never allowed this situation to arise. DRUGS R SHORT TERM FIXES FOR LIFE AND DEATH SITUATIONS, they r no good long term for non-life threatening situations. FUkin greedy big pharma.

glaxom -- You may have explained this in another thread, but how long did you use fin? Also, have you been lasering and for how long? I'd be really interested in hearing whether some of these sides clear now that you are off. From my brief read of the forums, it sounds like it may take a month or so to see the sides subsiding. Of course, for some people it takes longer or never happens.

I knew about brain-fog and always wondered if it was fin related, but I wasn't aware that it could also cause social anxiety, etc. I agree with you though, I want to quit. I'd just prefer to minimize the hair loss as a result. Plus, at the time I'm unemployed and dating a lot, so brain fog seems more desirable than baldness

Of course, all of those sides have been attributable to aspartame too, so that could be the culprit since I drink lots of diet soda.

http://www.propeciahelp.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=24&sid=7999884407e759905d7f5407837076bd Thats the link to the propecia help forum page concerning mental side effects. The threads there are old and do not get responded to regularly, but it's still a good source of information. I had pretty bad brain fog when I quit fin. After a few months it slowly went away. It was a frightening experience, I was stumbling over words and having a lot of trouble concentrating on anything. I will never get back on the stuff again.

Yes, I forgot to mention the stumbling over words. I do it all the time now and it is driving me crazy. I use to be so articulate... Jus -- How long were you on fin and how long was it before you could speak without stumbling?
