Re: carbonjon said: I've been using finasteride for just under a year. In that time my hair has become thicker and more dense. I no longer use topikk because you can't see my scalp in the crown area any longer. Im a 35 yo wm with light to moderate hairloss only in the crown area. My Doctor agrees the finasteride is working very well for me....probably better than for most. As far as sides....I really dont notice any. Im single and date often, my sex life has never been better. I have no tenderness in the breast area. Im happy with the treatment. I also use a custom minoxidil blend but didnt notice significant results until about 4-5 months after being on finasteride. Carbonjon, how long do you estimate it took to see any improvement with continuous usage? How many mgs. do you take? The 1mg or 5mg? Is it brand or generic? Was it easy to get fin. prescribed being female? Do you use any topically as well? What is in your custom minox. solution, an dwhat is the % of minox.? What sides have you experienced as a result as of the recent past? Sorry for so many questions, my situation is remarkably similar and I am very intrigued by this. It would provide me with valuable information. Thanks in advance, DOGUE2181.

'Morning Wood', is more to do with a full bladder and pressure on the prostate. I dont think it has anything to high testosterone levels. However Melatonin from pineal gland, DHEA and HGH from hypothalamus and anterior pituitary, are primarily released at night time in REM sleep i think. Testosterone produced by leydig cells in between semineferous tubules in testes i think is mainly producing in daytime when ur active. But these r only my thoughts, I'm open to be proven wrong by the experts that will read this.

I think combining finasteride with other synthetic hormones is asking for trouble, i'd stick with gingko, tribulus, arginine, a big one which is banned here in australia, but i think not banned in america is Yohimbe. Another sort of tonic that u may wish to try is called dabur chyawanprash, its a 2000+ yr old herbal combination made predominantly from amla ( indian gooseberry- very high vit C) and has many other herbs too. its detoxifying , nutritious, increases NO production and good for the immune system. may be good for u.

opeth88,Joe Public and others, How many mgs. are you on and is it brand or generic? Joe, you've been on it awhile, what have your results been like? Noticable regrowth or filling in of balding/thinning spots? Any change in texture, dendity, managability? Have you noted any vellus hairs terminalize or head in that direction? I know these are very difficult questions. I've been using propecia 1mg for about 10 years (with very noticable positive results - I have WITHOUT ANY doubt sucessfully regrown hair (though largely they are fine vellus hairs - SHOUT OUT TO MY FRIEND NID ON THE HOAGGIE 250+ - as I am convinced that the laser helm will indeed terminalize these buggers). I convinced my doc. to write me a script for Proscar 5mg a couple of days ago. Prices are freakin UNGODLY! CVS wanted $350.00 for a 90 day supply! I have not had any sides from the propecia in all these years. It'll be interesting to see what the increased dosage brings about. I'm thinking about using some topically in a 10-15% minox., 5% AA, 5% spirno, 3% adenosine, and 2.5-5% saw palmetto solution (at least I was formulating that before abondoning ideas for topicals at the moment in staunch support and very realistical optimism regarding NIDs HGFs, topicals, and lasers). What are the thoughts on this dosage increase? kydd- You took the SP for 6 mo. Was it orally, topically, or both? Understanding that you had sides that became unbearable, what were your positive effects like? How many mgs did you take (orally or in a topical)? You mentioned progesterone cream. Do you have any personal experience with this to share? I'm trying (to NO avail) to find a "high potency" progest. cream (IH recommends one containing 1000mg per ounce). The closest I've come is 480mg/oz? Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.

Hey Dogue, My total regimen has been 1.25 mg finasteride (increased from 1 mg - easier to divide the pill into fourths) since 10/15/07, Rogaine Foam 2xday since 8/1/07, Nizoral %1 4xweek since 8/1/07, Lasermax 50 (too lazy to build my own) since 9/1/08, and some dermarolling. Subject: 42 yo wm with slowly diffuse thinning since I was 26. Results: Crown area was first to thicken. Hair has darkened and gotten thicker overall. Sheds want to make me cry, though. A lot peach fuzz-like vellus hairs around the temple and hairline. When I look at the hairs that I lose I can see a lot of them are very thin at the end and thicken up towards the base. Anyway, I see a lot of smaller hairs coming in but I don't know if I can attribute it to the finasteriede really starting to kick in or if it's the laser therapy.

Dogue, Well first off im a male...I guess you were confused by the 'tender breast' thing. from what I understand, some men experience swollen or tender breasts while on finasteride but I do not. My Dr. gave me a scrip for 5mg proscar that I break into 4 pieces so I figure I get about 1.25 mg a day. It's cheaper to do it this way and I do not take the generic. The minox blend i take is from Dr. klein and I believe it's 5%minox w/ retin-a....he recomends 4 times a day but I just use it morning and night...so only 2x a day. I like it much better than 5% rogaine, it dries much faster and doesnt leave a greasy film like i experienced with rogaine. the loss significantly slowed after about 8 weeks and after 5 months i noticed thickening. After a year on this regimine im very satisfied and have regrown most of my lost hair. I can no longer tell my hair is thinning. I also use 2% nizoral 2x a week. I have experienced no side effects. I brush my hair with a natural boars hair brush every day just to stimulate my scalp. No one told me to do this but it seems to make my hair at least appear healthier.

I don't have the money at the time to buy lasers... i'll be more motivated if fin doesn't work out for me. I built my device for less then 3 months worth of fin... which is really cheaper?
