Do people actually become immune to finasteride? When it loses it's effectiveness for someone, and they just drop it, will it even matter? Does it actually stop working after time, or if you drop it will you still go through a huge shed and lose a bunch of hair? It seems like if it stops working for you and you are still losing hair at a decent rate, there is no reason to continue using it unless it actually is still slowing down your loss but you don't know it?Fin worked the first year for me, thickened up my hair and made it less see-through, but after that 1 year I was quickly back to square one, then it kept getting worse.

J87X, I had the same experience with fin, but it took six years to finally stop working. I quickly started to lose everything that was gained and now it seems that nothing can slow down the loss. I don't know if you will shed if you stop taking it. I have considered stopping many times but always lost my nerve in fear of losing more hair.

FIN is good to slow down hair loss but not powerful enough to completely halt it. FIN decreases scalp DHT by about 40%, which is ok for a while, but eventually the body catches up with the genetic plan to go bald. If FIN was enough to stop hairloss, we would not be on these boards. You need to start looking into DUT and also adding some topicals that further decrease the effects of DHT. And of course, lasers.

FYI... Nidhogge relayed to me that Dr. Maricle said that LASERS HAVE NOTHING -ZIP, ZERO, NADA- TO DO WITH DHT! No study backs that up. Yet... lasers all by themselves can keep hair. Hmmmmmmm......

I forget what thread I read this in (they all seem to blend together sometimes) but some people were stating that even with DHT completely removed from the scalp that Testosterone can fill the receptors on the hair follicle and do the same thing albeit much much slower and to a lesser degree. So even with Dutasteride eventually the testosterone will overtake the situation. Which seems to be why initially people do get regrowth and the situation is halted but eventually this process is overrun by testosterone. I do not know that this is a fact but it seems to match peoples results with finasteride and to a lesser extent dutasteride. On the same note, Dutasteride will show more of this same trend in the future due to more people taking it for longer periods of time. Ideally the best solution would be to have a competitive inhibitor of the receptor on the hair follicles or a way to remove said receptors and only on the scalp area. It seems that the best solution at this time though seems to be the combination of lasers and other treatments like a DHT blocker. But even we do not know long term effects or viability of lasers as a hair loss treatment. However, it seems that lasers work in a much different way than do they synthetic and even herbal medicines that we apply to our scalp, which is reassuring. Hopefully there will be more study into the efficacy of lasers and why they work and hopefully it starts in part to all of us here!

I'm sure there will be more studies -and there probably already have been- but will that info ever get to the forums? ...And if it does, will the one person that goes "Lasers are a scam, I used a hairmax for 17 years and it didn't do anything" succeed in killing the thread like they have before, even though it's a ridiculous statement? I'm not going to be here forever, you know! lol...

Hey hapyman, good point on testosterone. It does play a small role but perhaps it is sufficient enough to promote some follicles miniatrization. That's why using Flutamide gives such good results: it prevents DHT type 1 & 2 AND testosterone to bind to the AR. And yes, over time even DUT at 0.5mg a day is not enough on its own to halt hairloss, I have personally experienced this too. The best treatments is a combination that will: 1)reduces T>DHT conversion 2)de-activates some DHT 3)blocks some Androgen receptors 4)destroys some Androgen receptors

Guys, Has anyone tried Samson MDF? The product ingredients are 15% Minox, 2.5mg Dut and 2% Flutamide. If that's true then it should help slow down the balding process and even grow some hair. What are your thoughts on this product?
