Finasteride and Prostate Cancer ImmortalHair and BobTheBuilder have been posting false and misleading information in regard to the use of Finasteride as it relates to the occurrence of prostate cancer. All those interested in the actual facts of the largest, most inclusive, study done to date on Finasteride and prostate cancer should review said study for themselves at: http://www.medpagetoday.com/HematologyOncology/ProstateCancer/tb/3942 If you do a "Google" search you can also find many other references to the aforementioned study. The above reference study was done over a seven year period and involved a total of 9,691 men. The study found that: "men in the Proscar arm had a 24.8% reduced risk of prostate cancer compared with placebo patients"

Sandman - Appreciate the update. There were some limitations of the study such as not all users getting a second biopsy, but this is encouraging.

I don't believe IH is deliberately trying to mislead anyone. He simply relays what he learns and refletcs on it with what he already knows. In the past he has said that finasteride may increase the risk of aggressive prostate tumors. I disagreed with him then and I would disagree with him now, but he didn't just fabricate the information. A few researchers have suspected a link to more aggressive tumors. On a side note, I sincerely hope IH won't be retiring anytime soon. He of all people would appreciate the neuroprotective benefits of intelectual engagement, such as the research of medicine and the participation in inteligent discourse on online forums.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I would love to spend a week with the guy just to observe his lifestyle and document his day to day activities. My own lifestyle habits are in need of a dramatic overhaul.

For the record, I made ImmortalHair aware of the results referenced in this study approximately 1 year ago when a similar discussion came up in regard to Finasteride and prostate cancer. Perhaps, ImmortalHair, forgot about the study. However, since he has recently posted info that asserts that those who don't take Finasteride have a lesser chance of getting prostate cancer then those that do, he should confirm his info prior to making said assertions. Otherwise, ImmortalHair is indeed providing misleading info!

Sandman, Your knowledge is limited I would take your words with a grain of salt. People walking around with sore testicles would be a good think right because we are growing hair. DHT is NOT THE CAUSE OF MPB!

BobTheBuilder: Not asking anyone to take my word which is why I posted to the link to the study. Let people reveiw the study and draw their own conclusions. BTW, BobTheBuilder, you were the one "walking around with sore testicles" from taking Finasteride not me. I've been taking Finasteride for close to 7 years with excellent results and no adverse side effects of any kind whatsoever. Furthermore, since you brought up the subject of limited knowledge, and taking ones word, perhaps you could post some links to the research to support your assertion that; "DHT is NOT THE CAUSE OF MPB!" Or, do you except everyone to just "take your words" that this is the case?

On the sore testicles subject its not common right? Open your eyes, if people on hair loss forums are talking about sore testicles what would be the percentage that don't use the internet as a community.

BobTheBuilder: Unfortunately, it appears that you can not comprehend the data in the study I referenced! For you easy of reference said study was done over a seven year period and involved a total of 9,691 men. By far the largest to date! Does said study report that they are "100% sure there is not link with Fin and cancer."? No! The results of the study indicate that: "men in the Proscar arm had a 24.8% reduced risk of prostate cancer compared with placebo patients" I suggest to review said study at,http://www.medpagetoday.com/HematologyOncology/ProstateCancer/tb/3942 and report back on what data you're unable to decipher! As far as "sore testicles" as a result of taking Finasteride go. I've been taking Finasteride for close to 7 years and have never experienced this problem. So, I'd suggest you, BobTheBuilder, "Open your eyes" to the fact that people respond differently.
