Avodart questions... Hey guys. I’m considering switching from fin to avodart since my vertex is still on the thin side and I’m hoping it will grow in some. I have some questions if you have time: 1. Are a lot of you guys using it? 2. Is it effective on the vertex area? 3. Are you getting it by prescription, or ordering it yourself? 4. What is recommended dosage? 5. Anything else I should be aware of?Thanks!

Avodart should be your last option imo. Did you tried some good old minox or spectral or copper peptides ?Some people respond pretty well to them.

Last option? The way I see it, fin and dut are the only real options. You have to reduce DHT to have a chance, and the more the better. Ideally, a topical that eliminated DHT would be the best choice, but then it's a real pain to apply it every day. I've tried minox, but it never grew anything significant, although it irritated the heck out of my scalp.

I've been using it for about 40 days. .05 every other day. You will have some tough days in which shedding will occur. But it seems that my hair is either the same, or possibly a bit thicker. I believe that hair loss has slowed a little since I've started. I've observed 0 sides. I guess only time will tell.

My hairloss began about 10 years ago and for some reason it was always accompanied by a painful scalp. avodart is the only thing that has worked for me. It stopped my scalp pain and it stopped my hairloss. In my mind it is the only treatment out there that is worth the cost. From what I understand the dosage determines whether you're going to cease hair loss or regrow hair. Every other day seems to stop hair loss, while every day seems to promote regrowth. I took it every day for a while but have switched to every other day to save money. I had a transplant so I cannot state whether avodart regrow hair for me, but I can say that it ended my hairloss. I can't even pull hairs out unless I tug really hard. and thankfull I haven't had any side effects either.

i agree that avodart is a great drug but it makes no scense to take it every other day.the amount of dht inhibition you will get from taking the smallest possible dose every other day equals just about the same dht inhibition as finasteride once a day will. the only logical reason someone would have for switching from fin to dut is that fin was not supressing enough dht and you want something stronger(and dutasteride does do the job nicely)but only when taken every day can you expect any results that are better than finasteride if you were taking that every day. the only time i would reccomend taking days off with dut is after you have been taking it for at least 6 months to a year.unlike fin(with a short half life)dutasteride has a rather long half life and it tends to build up in the system and after a while of taking it,i believe one can go a few months with every other day dosing and see no difference in effectivness as long as after those couple months they then return to daily dosing. i have used dut for close to a year now and can say for sure it has thickened up my hair and definetly stopped my hairloss in its tracks.the only downside is on my hairline.i was disappointed that it did nothing in that area other than thicken up the exhisting hairs,it grew no new hairs like it did on my vertex and mid scalp.both those areas are completely regrown and no longer is hairloss noticable in those areas.

that basically confirms what I said...every day will grow hair, every other day will stop hair loss. But there is a difference between propecia and avodart...avodart blocks both types of dht while propecia only blocks one. This may be why some people respond to propecia while others dont.

Are any doctors prescribing dut for hair loss? I goto Dr. Savin in New Haven CT and last time I was there (about 8 months ago) he said there was "nothing new" besides finasteride for hair loss. I'm wondering if he's just not up on new stuff anymore.
