Grapefruit juice and finasteride I've heard that taking finasteride with grapefruit juice helps in the absorption. Is this true? Also I'm taking 1/4 of Finast (generic Proscar purchased through united pharmacies) is anybody else taking these? I just bought them about a month ago and hope that these are real. I just switched from taking Propeica and got tired of paying $70 a month. These pills save me tons, but am concerened as they are about the same size as my propecia pills, but are supposed to be 5mg of finasteride. That's why I split them into 1/4ths. Please let me know!

It is largely dependent on the specific medication, but in many cases grapefruit juice makes medications less effective, i.e., blocks absorption. In short, grapefruit juice contains an enzyme that blocks many medications absorption through the walls of the small intestines. Do a Google search for "grapefruit juice and drugs" and you'll find a lot of info on this subject.

Grapefruit is one of those foods that need investigation before ingestion. Something about the fruit can react badly with medications.
