as far I know it is not fully understood why nizoral should work at all. However i use it alongside propecia and minoxidil and I can definitely say i lose far less hair now. I would recommend using in your regimen.

There was a study done oh about 3 or 4 years ago I saw on the news that nizoral helps keep the hair you have vs those who do not use it. I have been using it for 6 years now...the 1% from the store. I dunno what other factors are involved but my younger brother has alot LESS hair than I do.

Hey there. I am new to the forum. I am 30 yrs old, and just had my first translpant about 4 months ago here in Beverly Hills, CA. How often do the majority of you use Nizoral? The bottle says every 3-4 days, and for only up to 8 weeks. Seems like many of you have used it for years. Is is safe for long term use? I just don't know whether to use it as my daily cleanser, or 1-2x a week. Thanks a lot!

My understanding is that the active ingredient in Head N' Shoulders and another active ingredient in Nizoral binds with the DHA in your hair follicle. I've read that either works well. I've been using H & S for about 6 months now (every 3 days, keep it in your head while you finish the shower) and it is preventing any loss.

I use the prescription version which has 2% ketoconazole (as opposed to the 1% that is in Nizoral). But I started using it 10 years ago to control my seborrheic dermatitis (severely dry scalp). No long term ill effects here, just helps me keep my scalp hydrated. I don't know if the SD had anything to do with my hair loss (started falling out slowly at age 20 and really escalated right after my 28th birthday) I heard that Nizoral (ketoconazole..) is supposed to help block DHT somewhat on the surface... but I just read that on a forum so I don't know how true that is.
