Avodart(or Dutasteride) is a new DHT blocker that has been FDA approved for BPH(enlarged Prostate). It blocks both types of DHT by 93% in the blood and reduces scalp DHT levels by 54%. I have used it for two years with modest results. I now remove the liquid from the gel caps and mix it into Xandrox 15%. I am trying it as a topical preparation.

When switching from Fin to Avodart does one suffer the loss of dependent hairs? what about vice versa? if Avodart becomes too much of a finacial burden or causes unwanted side effects can I switch back?

I didn't notice any change going from Propecia to Avodart. I see no reason why you can't go back.

The high cost is because it is a brand name drug and not a generic version. It takes 20 years in the U.S. before a generic version becomes available.

Jetman: Im on Dr. Reddys Avodart. I will tell you if it really works, I have heard from lots of guys that it does. I put 5 pills into my 5% rogaine, is Xanadrox really all that much better??? Why cant I just add my own azelaic acid and dut to my own Rogaine?

MarkG-Xandrox is more expensive because the Azaleic acid and/or Retin-A is added to it. I use the 15% version. I think that generic 5% Minoxidil will work as well as the 5% Xandrox IMO. I think Azaleic acid can be added if you have the liquid form and not the cream. You can put the liquid from the Dutasteride gel caps in the Minoxidil. That is what I am now doing. Good luck.
