Question about stopping propecia

42 years old and I have been on propecia since it hit the market. I wonder how many other guys fall into the catigorie that I do: Started Propecia without knowing if I would really loose a lot of hair anyway.

Back then, I started to see some hairline changes, nothing major but witnessed a slow and slight thinning during my mid thirties. Parents were not bald but a few uncles were, so I started purely for prevention.I was convinced that despite a full head of hair, the slow process would continue.(ok, was a little paranoid). But now I have no idea what is mine and what is mine due to the drug.

Currently, due to a mild health issue. I am thinking of stopping cold turkey but of course at this juncture don't know what % of my hair is due to 5+ years of the drug.

If I stop, how many weeks/months does it take for the "propecia" hair to fall out? Also, if I freak out in the weeks ahead and realize I was a bald man all this time with a head of propecia hair, can I start back up and expect to get back to the amount of hair I now have?

 		If you are thinking that you might start back up later on, then maybe you should'nt quit in the first place.

 		What was your reason for quiting? Why take the chance of loosing what you might of gained. Maybe take a smaller dose?

 		Any hair that was maintained due to the use of Propecia will fall out anywhere between 6-12 months after your last dose. Depending on how soon you begin treatment again after stopping will determine how much of the hair will return, if you do wait too long though, it will be more difficult to regain what you lost if indeed the hair was being maintained by the Propecia.

Your health should come first, but you should run all this by a doctor first because there might not be a need to discontinue treatment if the Propecia will not interfere with your other health problems.

 		I have the same problem, although undoubtedly I would be bald right now without Propecia. It seems like you are not sure if you would still HAVE your hair even without Propecia. I know without Propecia I would be bald. I am in the same situation and am going to cut down the dose to every other day, just because I am sick of taking a pill everyday. As stated, if you do have Propecia hair within 6-12 months you will lose it all. Since I don't think Propecia does a good job of " regrowing " hair, and in my opinion, Propecia just stops the hair you have from falling out. I think you will find if you stop and lose all the " Propecia " hair - you will have hard time getting back to what you were before you quit it.

 		I've heard a few guys say they stopped because of side effects or because they didn't think it was working too good only to become bald within a year. If you have MPB and Propecia has been stopping your hair loss then you will lose a lot more hair than you are now. If you aren't prepared to lose more hair don't go off the med.

 		Are you going off the med because you want to have children?? Does the drug effect in any way your ability to have children or can it harm the baby in any way given that the drug does mess with your hormones?

 		Any hairloss treatment, including the one that I use, if you stop using it, you will loose what you had gained:( But that's because hair is growing so you'll need to continue in order to see further growth.

 		Anybody ever reduced their daily dosages of Finasteride. I want to cut mine in half, but want to still hold on to my hair?
