Revivogen & Nizoral Treatment

Hello-

I am 27 and have been experiencing hairloss since I was about 21. I have been on propecia for about 2.5 yrs and rogaine for about 6 months, though I don't apply it as often as I should, try to do it at least 1x a day, usually before bed.

I have quite a bit of thinning around the temporal lobes and definitly have a good bit of loss in the crown area. However poor my situation is, I can say it has not deteriorated since I have been on propecia. It does seem to have stopped the loss. I have noticed some regrowth since starting Rogaine, but nothing dramatic.

I've been reading up on the forums about Nizoral 2% and I am definitly thinking about getting a prescription. I have also been reading a lot about Revivogen and I had a few questions.

1. Would be a good idea to try out Revivogen as well or is it pretty much the same as using Nizoral?

2. Would I be able to use Revivogen in conjuction with Rogaine?

3. Last question, what results have you guys had with either Nizoral or Revivogen?

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read my post, any feedback would be greatly appreciated! All the best.

Nizoral is a shampoo. The active ingredient helps block DHT in the scalp dermis.

Revivogen is a topical treatment that is supposed to block DHT in the scalp dermis and stimulate hair growth.

So, since Nizoral is shampoo and Revivogen is a topical treatment it wouldn't be out of order to use both.

The makers of Revivogen state that you can use it in conjunction with Minoxidil, but need to wait at 3 hours between individual applications.

I've never used Revivogen, but suspect that it is a good product. Althrough, I'm of the opinon that you'd be better off with twice daily Minoxidil applications then twice daily Revivogen.

I've used Nizoral 2% in the past, no longer do. Can't really say how much it helped since I used Finasteride and Minoxidil at the same time. However, may results have been excellent. Thing with Nizoral that it's shampoo, so it easy to use and surely of some benefit.

I'll toss one more thing into the mix. If you are having a hard time applying Minoxidil on a consistent basis, you'll probably have the same difficulty with Revivogen.

Thanks for the advice Sandman.

To clarify, my problem with applying Minoxidil 2x a day is that it makes styling difficult in the morning It makes the treated areas very oily. Thats why I usually only apply it in the evenings. Any suggestions on that front?

Revivogen seems easier since its a once a day application.

Also, you need a perscription for Nizoral 2% right?

Thanks again!

I appreciate you styling problems. Had the same trouble when I first started Minoxidil a little over 4 years ago. This is how I solved the issue:

1. Switch from Rogaine, which is very, very greasy, to Dr. Lee's 5% Minoxidil, www.minoxidil.com. You won't believe how much cleaner it is. Leaves you hair much nicer after application.

2. My AM application of Minoxidil is applied after I shower/shampoo to towel dried scalp with hair still somewhat wet. I comb my hair straight up with a hair pick [the plastic kind with rounded tips about 2" wide]. Hold your hair up with one hand and apply Minoxidil, dropper style, with the other. Keep the dropper close to your scalp at all times. If you wish to rub it in do it lightly with the hair pick. Use this method and the Minoxidil stays on your scalp, where you want it anyway, and out of your hair. After letting the Minoxidil absorb for about 10 minutes, I blow dry my hair, on low heat.

Do your AM treatment this way, especially with Dr. Lee's, and your hair style will end up looking the same as always. Sure, some of the Minoxidil may evaporate with the blow dry, but applying it to your hydrated scalp increases absorption, and you'll get some benefit.

I've used this method in the AM for close to 4 years, with excellent results!

In the USA you need a prescription for 2% Nizoral. In Canada it's sold over the counter. You can order Nizoral from the USA,online, from Canadian drug stores without a prescription, as well as from other websites. Also, Dr. Lee offers a shampoo with the same active ingredient.

Sandman-

Thanks so much for the advice, I will try that out for sure!

Your solution however has produced another question... :)

What is up with this Xandrox15 on the minoxidil.com homepage? Is that bogus or no? Anyone try it?

Thanks agian for your time and help!

I'm a big fan of all Dr. Lee's products there's nothing bogus about any of them. This includes Xandrox15.

Xandrox15 is the only Minoxidil solution on the market. The other high strength ones are a lotion.

I did use Xandrox15 for a 4 month period. It's very nice stuff, althrough a little more oily, then Lee's other Minoxidil solutions. However, I liked it just fine.

At the time I tried Xandrox15, I'd been using Minoxidl for about 3 years and was very pleased with my results.

Generally, after 3 years or so on Minoxidil, with good results, you can start to consider maintaining your results with one application per day. I really wasn't looking for boost, but was thinking about switching over to one appliction in the PM with Xandrox15. However, I found myself so conditioned to the AM & PM applications I ended up sticking with that.

In addition, you're really better off with twice daily Minoxidil applications, because it's more effective when it continually remains in the dermis.

If I ever find myself losing ground and in need of a boost, I'll start using Xandrox15 for my PM treatment.

By the way, I use Dr. Lee's 5% Minoxidil with Retin-A both AM and PM. The Retin-A increases the absorption which provides additional aid in the AM application I previously mentioned. However, if you decide on trying R.A., I'd start by using it for only one application per day. If you tolerate the R.A. solution without problems, work yourself up to two a day applications over a 4 to 6 month time frame.

Sandman-

Do you think I will get better results if I use Xandrox15 in the evenings and Dr Lees 5% in the mornings? Or would it just be overkill? Are there any drawbacks to Xandrox15?

Again, thanks so much for your help, it is very much appreciated!!!

I'm not aware of any real drawbacks to Xandrox15. Chances are you may well get better results by using Lee's 5% AM and Xandrox15 PM.

The only thing you may wish to consider is that you've only been consistly applying Minoxidil once per day for about 6 months. You might want to try regular two per day applications of 5% Minoxidil for 6 to 8 months. Evaluate your results at the end of this peroid. If you think you need a boost, switch to Xandrox15 in the PM.
